For example, when the lubricating oil is in contact with and blown by the air, it often forms tiny bubbles in the oil and is difficult to disappear. The oil in operation can cause a drastic change in the transmission of power due to the inclusion of air bubbles. Fresh oil often foams as time goes by. If 0.001 to 0.0001% of poorly soluble dimethylsiloxane is added to the oil, the foaming may be stopped arbitrarily. Therefore, it is commonly used as a defoaming agent for turbine oil, gear oil or the like. Defoaming agents are mostly surfactants and should have the following properties: (1) Defoamers can reduce the effectiveness of foam stabilizers by direct chemical reaction to form products that do not stabilize the foam. A non-polar solvent that is less dense than water and insoluble in water will spread over the surface of the water, creating a new surface that will cause damage to the foam. These solvents are only effective for surface foams and not for dispersed foams.
(2) The foam former may be replaced by another coupling surfactant, or it may be removed from the bubble wall by a polar solvent such as alcohol.
(3) Reducing foam stability can be accomplished by increasing surface tension, reducing surface viscosity, or reducing hydrogen bonding.
 (4) The antifoaming agent may contain a hydrophobic solid which can form a local weak point or a low surface tension point. Foam bubbles with weak points are easily broken.
